Interim Fund Controller – Private Equity (4–6 Month Contract)

We are currently seeking an experienced Interim Fund Controller to support one of our private equity clients during a parental leave coverage.
Role Overview:
The Interim Fund Controller will step into a key finance leadership role at a fast-paced private equity firm. The role includes oversight of fund accounting, financial reporting, tax coordination, and operational finance functions. The ideal candidate has significant experience working within a private equity environment and is comfortable operating independently with minimal onboarding.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the client’s outsourced fund administrator to ensure timely and accurate NAVs, investor reporting, and capital activity processing.
- Review and sign off on quarterly and annual fund financial statements.
- Coordinate annual fund audits and tax filings with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Monitor fund compliance, partnership agreements, and regulatory obligations.
- Support internal reporting processes, including fund performance tracking and ad hoc financial analysis.
- Partner with internal stakeholders (deal teams, legal, compliance, investor relations) to ensure alignment on fund operations.
- Provide insight and recommendations to improve reporting processes and financial controls.
- Ensure a seamless transition back to the permanent Fund Controller at the end of the engagement.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in fund accounting and financial operations, ideally in a private equity, venture capital, or asset management environment.
- Prior experience managing third-party fund administrators and auditors.
- Strong working knowledge of fund structures, LPAs, waterfalls, and private equity accounting practices.
- CPA or relevant financial/accounting certification preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with executives, legal, and investment professionals.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in an interim, fractional, or consulting capacity is a plus.
Compensation:
Competitive, based on experience. Paid monthly throughout the engagement.
