Interim Fund Controller – Private Equity (4–6 Month Contract)

Our Interim Executive Services division specializes in deploying seasoned leaders into interim roles to support critical business needs, drive transformation, and create measurable impact. We are currently seeking an experienced Interim Fund Controller to support one of our private equity clients during a parental leave coverage.

Role Overview:

The Interim Fund Controller will step into a key finance leadership role at a fast-paced private equity firm. The role includes oversight of fund accounting, financial reporting, tax coordination, and operational finance functions. The ideal candidate has significant experience working within a private equity environment and is comfortable operating independently with minimal onboarding.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee the client’s outsourced fund administrator to ensure timely and accurate NAVs, investor reporting, and capital activity processing.
• Review and sign off on quarterly and annual fund financial statements.
• Coordinate annual fund audits and tax filings with external auditors and tax advisors.
• Monitor fund compliance, partnership agreements, and regulatory obligations.
• Support internal reporting processes, including fund performance tracking and ad hoc financial analysis.
• Partner with internal stakeholders (deal teams, legal, compliance, investor relations) to ensure alignment on fund operations.
• Provide insight and recommendations to improve reporting processes and financial controls.
• Ensure a seamless transition back to the permanent Fund Controller at the end of the engagement.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in fund accounting and financial operations, ideally in a private equity, venture capital, or asset management environment.
• Prior experience managing third-party fund administrators and auditors.
• Strong working knowledge of fund structures, LPAs, waterfalls, and private equity accounting practices.
• CPA or relevant financial/accounting certification preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work with executives, legal, and investment professionals.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Prior experience in an interim, fractional, or consulting capacity is a plus.

Compensation:

Competitive, based on experience. Paid monthly throughout the engagement.
